Lourdes Hill Convent School was established in 1976 at Pollibetta, at a time when English-medium education was still a rare privilege in this part of Kodagu. The school soon became a cherished choice for families from Pollibetta and surrounding areas, with students coming from places such as Virajpet, Siddapur and Suntikoppa.
As the demand for quality English-medium education grew, the people of the surrounding communities appealed for the school to be upgraded to the High School level. The Bishop of Mysore took up the matter with the Mother General, while Tata Coffee, then known as Consolidated Coffee, also supported the request so that the children of its officers could continue their education at Lourdes.
Responding to these needs, the school expanded its educational mission to the High School level. Over the decades, generations of dedicated teachers have shaped young minds, while students have brought honour to their alma mater through achievements in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
Today, Lourdes Hill Convent School looks back on fifty years of nurturing minds, moulding character and inspiring generations to serve society with knowledge, integrity and compassion.

Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima was born on 29 January 1858 with a heart deeply devoted to God and to the service of others. From an early age, she felt called to a life of faith, compassion, and education.
She devoted herself to children, believing that every child deserved the gift of learning, love, and dignity. With little in her hands but unwavering faith and determination, she opened schools, nurtured young minds, and inspired generations of teachers and sisters to continue her mission.
She passed away on 12 September 1902, but her work did not end. Her legacy lives on in the institutions shaped by her vision, including Lourdes Hill Convent School, where her enduring spirit of prayer, love, and work continues to guide us.
