About

About Lourdes Hill Convent School

A legacy of faith, knowledge, discipline and service, nurturing generations of learners since 1976.

Our story

A Legacy Built On Faith And Learning

Lourdes Hill Convent School was established in 1976 on a quiet rise above the coffee estates of Pollibetta, opening with a handful of classrooms, a chapel and a conviction that every child of Kodagu deserved a careful education.

The founding vision was simple and demanding at once: to form young people of conscience — to teach them to think clearly, to work honestly and to look after one another.

Decade by decade the school grew wing by wing. A library, science laboratories, a playground carved from the slope, and classrooms that now carry children from nursery through high school in the medium of English.

Generations of estate and town families have passed through the gate, and many return as parents. What has not changed is the scale of the place: small groups, teachers who know every name, children walked to the gate at the closing bell.

Fifty years on, the school remains answerable to the community it was built to serve — offering accessible, values-based schooling, and an education of the whole person in faith, intellect, character and service.

Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima was born on 29 January 1858 with a heart deeply devoted to God and to the service of others. From an early age, she felt called to a life of faith, compassion, and education.

She devoted herself to children, believing that every child deserved the gift of learning, love, and dignity. With little in her hands but unwavering faith and determination, she opened schools, nurtured young minds, and inspired generations of teachers and sisters to continue her mission.

She passed away on 12 September 1902, but her work did not end. Her legacy lives on in the institutions shaped by her vision, including Lourdes Hill Convent School, where her enduring spirit of prayer, love, and work continues to guide us.

“Do all the good you can, to all the people you can, in all the ways you can, and never count the cost.”
